The Latest Social Media Trends to Hit the Digital Scene
The digital world changes quickly and it can be hard to keep up with all the latest and greatest social media trends. Lucky for you, we’re on top of it. Recently, we’ve some changes in Facebook Ads, LinkedIn audiences, Instagram Ads, Snapchat announcements, and Gmail changes. Read on to find out what these changes are and what you need to look out for as a social media marketer.
As a social media marketer, you’ve most likely heard of the changes with Facebook ads to reduce discrimination. Targeting options are now being removed due to concerns that its advertising platform enables discrimination against particular audiences on the basis of race, gender, age, and more.
This means Facebook will no longer allow advertisers in housing, employment, and credit industries to target users according to gender, age or ZIP code. Facebook will also disable targeting that appears to exclude users on the basis of race, gender, age, class, sexual orientation, or religion. It’s also building a tool that will enable users to view all of the housing-related ads that are currently running in the US.
Competitive research on Facebook just got a little easier as well. There is now an expansion of the Ad Library to include every business page that’s running ads, not just pages related to politics and social issues as previously included. This streamlines the process of searching for competitors’ ads.
While competitors can now see your ads, the good thing is they can’t see the behind the scenes targeting including demographics and lookalike audience parameters. As Facebook makes ads more transparent, it’s good to focus on writing strong copy and creating compelling visuals. These audience-based details are what really make ads successful at the end of the day. Although, it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye on other businesses in your space to make sure their ads aren’t too similar to your own.
LinkedIn is now rolling out a lookalike audience feature that will allow advertisers to expand their reach and be confident that the impressions and clicks you’re driving are from relevant, high-quality users. LinkedIn has also announced the expansion of interest targeting where you can target LinkedIn users according to combinations of their professional interests.
Instagram ads are now interactive! You can incorporate engagement with users on your Instagram ads using polls so you can now field opinions from followers and users at large. Give customers an opportunity to influence the development of your service or product by allowing them to voice their pain points, needs, or concerns.
