Red Egg Marketing Wins 3 Web Excellence Awards for American Museum of Western Art (AMWA) Website
When we first began work on the American Museum of Western Art’s website, our team had one simple goal: build a digital home as inspiring as the art it represents. Western art is bold, emotional, and full of stories, and we wanted the museum’s site to reflect all of that while also working seamlessly for modern audiences.
Fast forward to today, and that vision has been recognized on an international stage. We’re so excited to share that Red Egg Marketing won three Web Excellence Awards for our work on the AMWA website. These awards celebrate the very best in global web design, and taking home honors across multiple categories is a reminder that creativity and collaboration really do pay off.
It’s easy to say a project was a labor of love. But with AMWA, it was so much more—it was an opportunity to bring history alive for a new generation, to make a museum more accessible to its community, and to show that great design can turn complexity into something intuitive and beautiful.
What Are the Web Excellence Awards?
Before we dive into the details of the project itself, let’s talk about the Web Excellence Awards (also known as WE Awards). The Web Excellence Awards (WE Awards) are a global competition that celebrates digital brilliance in all its forms. Think of them as the Oscars of digital design, only with fewer tuxedos and more code.
The WE Awards recognize and honor the creative talent behind the internet’s most compelling websites, apps, and digital experiences. Agencies, developers, designers, and brands from around the world submit their best work, and projects are judged across categories that range from user experience and aesthetic design to innovative use of technology. Winners receive official certificates, have the option to commemorate their success with handmade wooden trophies, and join a vibrant community of peers who are collectively shaping the future of the digital landscape.
The WE Awards highlight work that raises the standard for digital storytelling–projects that feel effortless to use but are anything but simple to create. To even be considered among such a diverse, international field is exciting. To come home with three awards? That’s downright humbling.
What Were We Awarded by the Web Excellence Awards?
The AMWA museum website design project was special because it was all about fusing together art, history, and functionality in one beautiful digital space. Each award we won represents a different aspect of that mission.
Website Aesthetic Design
Western art has a unique look and feel: sweeping landscapes, rugged portraits, and a sense of timelessness. Capturing that digitally was a challenge we embraced head-on. The site needed to be elegant without feeling sterile, modern without losing its sense of place. Every font choice, color palette, and layout decision was made with intention.
The Website Aesthetic Design award recognized our ability to build a site that doesn’t just function well but feels like a natural extension of the museum’s galleries. Visitors don’t just see Western art. They experience it.
Website User Experience
If the aesthetic is the “wow” factor, user experience is the glue that holds everything together. For museums, this is often where digital projects fall flat. Visitors want to browse collections, book tickets, shop the gift store, and maybe even find teaching resources—all without needing a digital map to figure out where to click.
Our team overhauled AMWA’s navigation, streamlined the ticketing process, and made sure every element was designed with the user in mind. The Website User Experience award validated that effort, proving that beauty and usability aren’t mutually exclusive.
E-commerce Design
It’s not every day you find a museum website where you can seamlessly buy both tickets and a gift shop item in the same transaction. That’s because most museums rely on third-party ticket vendors, creating clunky, disjointed experiences.
We knew AMWA deserved better. By building the e-commerce directly into the site with WooCommerce, we created a checkout process that feels smooth, intuitive, and modern. Winning the E-commerce Design award was particularly satisfying because it validated a choice that makes life easier for both the museum staff and its visitors.
Meet Our Talented Team Who Worked on AMWA’s Site
Awards like these don’t happen without people who care deeply about what they do. The AMWA project was powered by designers, developers, and strategists who brought their A-game from day one to bring our website redesign strategy to life.

Alyson Rua – Art Director
“The Anschutz Collection is made up of hundreds of stunning artworks, all held within a beautiful historic building, and it was past time their website reflected that beauty. It was an honor to celebrate this unique museum by bringing its website to life with engaging videography and photography and a modern, responsive layout. With a visually appealing web presence and improved functionality, this redesign is built to drive conversions and gain visitor attendance.”

Jacob Lang – Senior Developer
“Working on Anschutz was a great opportunity to modernize the shop and overall browsing experience. Utilizing WooCommerce and FooEvents and built using React Components, the site was modernized with faster load speeds, while also enabling a more modular approach. It was a joy to build as the design was more modern, and far more impactful.”
Partnering with the American Museum of Western Art
The American Museum of Western Art is a gem in Denver’s cultural scene. But like many museums, their old website didn’t fully capture the richness of what they had to offer. Outdated navigation, disjointed ticketing, and limited online resources meant they weren’t connecting with audiences the way they could.
That’s where we came in. From the very beginning, our partnership with AMWA was about collaboration. They had a clear mission: share the power of Western art with a broader audience. We had the tools to make that mission digital.
Together, we created a site that:
- Simplifies ticketing and events with a custom-built booking system.
- Brings art to life through galleries, video, and text.
- Supports educators with interactive lesson ideas and activity resources.
- Extends the museum’s reach through e-commerce and online storytelling.
The recognition from the Web Excellence Awards is wonderful, but the real achievement is seeing AMWA’s team empowered with a platform that supports their work every single day.
